Competition in Sex Work
Recently, I was taking part in a Twitter conversation about the concern that new sex workers are at risk of tunnel vision and burnout. In many of my private networking groups, we hear daily accounts of the high standards creators have for themselves as well as the cruelty and dismissiveness from "fans" (99.9% are cishet men under 30) when they don't get exactly what they want when they want it for the price they want (usually FREE). Many of the creators are pushing themselves night and day to an unrealistic standard of appearance and speed of content production. These, mostly young women, creators are exhausted and overwhelmed.
The Twitter thread and their experiences inspired me to get in front of the camera and share my thoughts and (I hope) some of my wisdom about how I have managed the demands of online sex work. I share my observations and reflections from the competitiveness that existed among some performers but not other–– specifically the good-natured collaborative friendship I had with Carol Cox.
