Performance - The Milwaukee Chronicles
I was happy with my performance on Thursday night. I did a basic striptease to a 3 minute song to start. I went for short because I didn't know how familiar the audience would be with burlesque and didn't want to mess with the momentum of the night. It was a multidisciplinary event and in my experience people who attend these events come from various scenes and tend to be most into whoever and whatever brought them out to the show. Not always, but often. In this case, everyone seemed to be in the mood to explore and enjoy whatever was brought before them. This was really nice and I could have gone for longer. I was playing it safe. Next time I will take a risk with a 5 minute number.
Though there is something to be said about leaving them wanting more. Oh, artistic decisions of a burlesquer.
For my second number I did more of a performance art piece. I uncoiled myself from a piece of fabric, played with it and then ripped it a part. I ended in a pose that was inspired by the tableau performances from the late 19th century. I have been wanting to do this type of number for a few years now and I was so happy to have the right venue and event in which to do it. I think this number has potential and I look forward to developing it further. at the suggestion of a woman (and now friend) that I met that I night I am going to look into the serpentine numbers for inspiration.
There were a few event photographers so I hope I will have access to the photos and be able to show them here.
